Prying eyes and unwanted attention has always been a problem for the love-struck couples on the campus in Delhi University. Some time back, the metro stations had become a very congenial place for them. But, with the metro security becoming more vigilant and strict, it has become a tough time for them to hunt for a place where they could enjoy some moments of peace and togetherness.

Under the constant fear of being caught by their family or spotted by somebody known, these lovey-dovey couples seek for places where they can shirk away from public glares.

Though the metro platforms are no longer a favourite haunt for them, these pairs are often seen comfortably sitting in the grounds or in the parking lots near the stations.

Pallavi and Mukesh come all the way from Noida and meet each other at the Delhi Vishwavidyalaya metro station. The parking area near the metro station is also a good cover for these youngsters as it is not very crowded.

‘We constantly change the places where we meet. But, the metro station is convenient as it is a cool place. It’s an open place and we don’t make ourselves conspicuous. People take us as friends hanging out and do not give us unwanted attention,’ Mukesh said.

The Delhi University Park near the science faculty is another favourite place for the pairs. It’s an entirely different kind of excitement for these youngsters as they bunk their classes and flit around the park with their dates along.

Another interesting spot is the road near the Vice Chancellor’s office where the couples relax under the shade of the trees.
Gaurav, a young student of Delhi University said, ‘Indians confuse ‘freedom’ with the sovereignty we got in 1947. Individual freedom of any kind is still routinely denied here. Wherever you go, there would be several eyes following your back and it is disgusting. You don’t even have the right to spend some intimate moments with your girl-friend.’

Odd things happen when they go on dates at other places. Sometimes the police interrogate them and sometimes people hang around them to the extent of harassment. Therefore, they go the Delhi University sports ground that provides some relief to the courting couples, where they can avoid such problems.

The arts faculty is being renovated and it gives the lovers a wonderful opportunity to find some corners for themselves to snuggle up and can be in their own world oblivious of anything else.

With these places being the hot spots now, the couples on the campus are hopping to these places in a large number to catch up with some moments of bliss and happiness with their lovers.
